Popular Toronto DJ and radio personality, Fresh Cut De Mayor does it again with the final edition of Soca Reggaelution for 2014. The ‘Endless Summer’ theme rang true as feters, limers, drinkers and winers heat up the party enough to make old man winter nervous. The audience packed into the view as Outcast Sound ft. Fresh Cut and a ridiculous line-up of DJs tore the place down; indoor and outdoor! It was a night of the hottest Soca, Reggae, and T.N.A. (Total Non-stop Action) at Toronto’s largest Caribbean extravaganza. Fresh Cut promises more of what the people want at the next Soca Reggaelution, Family Day long weekend 2015.

Teenage Jamaican singing sensation, Samantha J, who burst onto the music scene last year with her hit single, Tight Up Skirt, has signed a record deal with major American label, Columbia Records.

According to reports Monday, the 17-year-old singer, whose real name is Samantha Gonsalves came to terms with Columbia, a label under the umbrella of Sony Music Entertainment and will be working with the label soon once she completes her exams. TMZ, who claims to have obtained a copy of the contract, reports the singer will be collecting 16% of sales and advances that could exceed US$1 million, depending on how long she stays with the label.

In a statement, Samantha J, who is currently on a promotional tour across North American, said, “I cannot express how happy I am to be a part of the Columbia Records family. The label has a rich history of developing great artistes and music. As soon as I have my exams under my belt, I can’t wait to get back to producing music and most of all making Jamaica proud.”

Playing on Red Rat’s classic hit with the same name, Tight Up Skirt,produced by Washroom Entertainment, garnered a lot of buzz forSamantha J since its release last summer, with the video for her debut single topping two million views on YouTube. She won the Youth View Award for Favorite Breakout Celebritythanks to the single and even performed it on BET’s 106 and Park last December, nearly two months after the video was premiered on the station.

She has since released her follow-up single, Hot Gyal Anthem, also produced by Washroom Entertainment and featured on several interviews locally and overseas.

Samantha J joins prominent Jamaican acts such as Peter Tosh, Ini Kamoze, Tony Rebel, Mad Cobra and Tigerwho have previously signed with Columbia Records.

Popular event promoter and DJ, Freshcut De Mayor has recently launched a dedicated YouTube channel to showcase the raving success of Soca Reggaelution XXIV in Toronto’s west end late last month.

More than a thousand die hard Soca/Reggae fans as well as notable media outlets including G98.7FM, CHRY 105.5FM, TorontoDeejays.com, and AN Photography came through to discover and enjoy the legendary Soca Reggaelution party experience. Freshcut is extending his thanks and gratitude to all those who helped in making the event a huge success.

Dedicated followers as well as hundreds of new faces make his fan base undeniable and it continues to grow as Freshcut commits himself to throwing some of the most enjoyable Caribbean-themed parties around. As a way to help fans stay connected and entertained between party events, De Mayor TV was launched on YouTube and is already receiving noteworthy viewership. Although the curtain will close on CSI after this highly anticipated night, Freshcut makes it clear that, “the action will only get bigger and better with Soca Reggaelution, Pirates Of The Caribbean and Soca In The City, to name a few…”

Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley can celebrate some history on the day his late father, Bob, would have celebrated his 69th birthday was born as Make It Bun Dem, the chart-topping collaborative effort with American producer, Skrillex has been certified gold by theRecording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

It was announced Thursday morning that the song, initially released in May 2012, achieved the prestigious status after over 501,000 copies of the song were sold in the United States, according to Soundscan. This makes Marley the first Jamaican artist to go gold sinceGyptian, whose award-winning single, Hold Yuh(2010) achieved similar status last June.

Make It Bun Dem continues to do well chart-wise, currently holding third spot on Billboard Magazine’s Digital Reggae Singles Chart, previously holding top spot on that chart for several weeks. The single also reached charts in the U.K., Australia, France, Sweden, Belgium and Austria, among other countries and, combined with the official video, has over 115 million YouTube hits.

Marley has struck gold before, as the international Reggae superstar earned similar status for his Grammy-winning album, Welcome To Jamrock as well as his single of the same name, which has sold close to 580,000 copies.
