New Tessanne album records lowest first-week sales among ‘The Voice’ winners

Nearly two weeks into its shelf-life and Count on my Love, the major label debut album from Jamaican songstress and former The Voice winner, Tessanne Chin has garnered very mixed results.

Though the album, released July 1, reached number 20 on Billboard magazine’s Top Digital Albums chart, Count on my Love has struggled from a sales perspective, with only 6,623 copies of the album being sold in its first week, according to reports Sunday. Just under 5,000 copies were sold digitally while the remaining were physical copies sold across Walmart stores in the United States.

The first-week total for Count on my Love is the lowest among album released by winners of The Voice to date. Season one winner of the American talent show, Javier Colon sold a shade under 10,000 albums in his first week with his self-titled project. That album has sold over 50,000 copies to date.

Season three and four winners, Cassadee Pope and Danielle Bradbery, sold 43,000 and 41,000 album in their respective first weeks with their albums, Frame by Frame and Danielle Bradbery respectively. Frame by Frame has sold 170,000 copies overall while 136,000 copies Danielle Bradbery have been sold to date.

Season two winners, Jermaine Paul and season six winner, Josh Kaufman have yet to release albums.

Count on my Love was produced by Republic Records, a sub-division of Universal Music Group. Chin’s sophomore effort, her first since her independently-released In Between Words album in 2010, featured 10 tracks, including two singles, Tumbling Down and Everything Reminds me of You, neither of which have charted on Billboard. The album features production and songwriting from Diane Warren, Toby Gad, Supa Dups, Chuck Harmony and Ryan Tedder of One Republic.

Just hours after its release, Count on my Love peaked at number six on the iTunes top 100 chart before falling to number 10 by the end of the day.

Jamaican songstress, Tessanne Chin is seeing immediate results after releasing her sophomore studio album, Count on my Love as the 10-track set hit the top 10 on the iTunes charts just hours after its release on Tuesday.

The album, her first since winning season five of the American talent show, The Voice last December, peaked at number six on the iTunes Top 100 albums chart Tuesday afternoon, trailing only Robin Thicke, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Magic! And Hillsong Worship. By the end of Tuesday, Chin’s compilation was tenth on the chart.

Chin expressed shock at how fast the album garnered such buzz, posting a snapshot of the iTunes chart on her Instagram page with the message, “Oh snap!!! #CountOnMyLove #OutNow #itunes #walmart thank you all so much!!! I couldn’t even begin to do this without you. #SoGrateful,”

Count on my Love is Chin’s major label debut under the Republic Records imprint, a syndicate of Universal Music Group. Two singles, Tumbling Down and Everything Reminds Me of You have been released from the album since the end of last year, performing them across various stage shows, talk shows and other TV appearances since winning The Voice.

The album features production and songwriting efforts from Supa Dups, Rock City, Diane Warren, Toby Gad, Mark ‘Exit’ Goodchild, Jerry ‘Wonda’ Duplessis, Stargate, Shama ‘Sak Pase’ Joseph and Shaun Pizzonia aka Sting International. It also features a mix of pop and Reggae elements and has received positive feedback from critics in the early going.

Count on my Love is the follow-up to her independently-released album, In Between Words in 2010.

Chin is currently on tour across the United States with her former cast mates from season five of The Voice. The tour, dubbed The Voice Summer Tour 2014, began in San Antonio on June 21 and will conclude on August 2 in Washington.

Season five winner of The Voice, Tessanne Chin has confirmed that her highly-anticipated album, Count On My Love, will be unveiled on June 24, her first album under the Republic Records imprint.

The announcement was made by Chin during her return to The Voice on Tuesday during the semi-final round of season six as she performed her second single off the album, Everything Reminds Me of YouThat song was written by Virgin Island producing duo, Rock City, who has written hits for Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson, Justin Bieber and several other top acts. It was produced by Black Chiney’s Dwayne ‘Supa Dups’ Chin-Quee

Count On My Love will also feature production from Toby Gad, Mark ‘Exit’ Goodchild, Jerry ‘Wonda’ Duplessis, Stargate, Shama ‘Sak Pase’ Joseph and Shaun Pizzonia aka Sting International, as well as writing from highly-acclaimed songwriter,Diane Warren, AC Burrell, Claude Kelly and One Republic’s Ryan Tedder, who penned Chin’s debut single from the album, Tumbling Down.

It has not been revealed which artists will feature on her record, thoughin an interview last month, Chin said the album will feature elements of her island roots as will feature different sounds and emotion reflective of her personality.

Count on My Love will mark Chin’s major label debut as it will be distributed by Republic Records, a label under the Universal Music Group umbrella. This is her follow-up to her debut album, In Between Words, which received little fanfare when it was released independently in 2010.

Meanwhile, Tessanne Chin has been confirmed along Jacqueline Lee and Will Champlin to headline The Voice’s North American tourbeginning June 21, which will see the former contestants perform 31 dates.

The 29-year-old singer will be in Toronto on Saturday for a performance at The Sony Centre.
