Dancehall Got Talent, the first North American talent show solely based on Dancehall and Dancehall themes, will be coming to the airwaves in the near future.
Popular media personality and disc jock, Nikki Z is set to host and co-produced the first televised Dancehall talent show in North America as Dancehall Got Talent is expected to hit the airwaves in the near future, according to reports Tuesday.
The show, produced by LA Wright and Kevin Beswick, is aimed at unearthing deejays and dancers based in the U.S. and promoting them worldwide. Dancehall Got Talent is scheduled to being airing in October and will be broadcast via OmniPresent Media (OPM) while the show will be streamed on Roku and can be watched on Apple TV, Xbox 360, iTunes and various other digital outlets.
A release issued by producers of the show intimated that the new show will enable the growth of Dancehall internationally.
“Dancehall Got Talent’s mission is to break down the walls and prejudices that have prevented the growth and development of the genre, while catapulting new artistes in dancehall to the mainstream,” the release said, while Nikki Z added, “For me, this is what I have been working for most of my career. The chance to really show how powerful and how magical the reggae dancehall culture is. The good, bad and ugly. To be an executive producer on such an historic adventure is something I can’t translate into words. This is just the beginning of much more to come – proves that belief in self is so important.”
The winning deejay of Dancehall Got Talent will receive US$5,000, a recording contract and global distribution deal while the victorious dance group will be brought back as the official dance crew for season two.
Dancehall diva, Timberlee along with recording artist, Ed Robinson, fashion expert and entrepreneur Dougie Platinum and IRIE Jam radio personality, DJ Roy will be the show’s judges while guest judge appearances and cameos are expected from acts such as Beenie Man, Mavado, Samantha J, Ce’Cile, Ace Hood, Danielle DI, Kes The Band and more.
